1.What are some skincare products and services that are safe during pregnancy?

Amanda answers the oh-so-frequently asked question about skincare during pregnancy:

“Because pregnancy limits the products and services you can safely use, consistency and high quality ingredients are key to maintaining healthy glowing skin.💚

We recommend using a gentle cleanser, exfoliating product and toner daily, and adding a moisturizer if your skin is feeling dry.

Pregnancy can cause changes to the skin as well as increased sensitivity. Using a Vitamin C serum and daily SPF help to keep skin bright and prevent dark spots. Acne concerns can be treated with topical Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, and a Salicylic Acid that is less than 2%. Simplifying your skin routine, or switching to a more gentle or natural product will help if your skin has become more sensitive.

Self care is important during this time and scheduling monthly facials is a great way for us to assess and help with your changing skin as well as providing some much needed ‘me time’ and relaxation.” - Amanda, RN

2.How long after a facial should I wait to put on makeup?

“Ideally, we would love for that fresh, gorgeous face of yours to have as much time as possible to soak up the benefits of your facial.

If you have no plans for the rest of the day, continue to relax and let those products do their job. You can even go to bed in them if no SPF is applied.

For makeup wearers, we suggest giving your skin some time to soak up the product before applying makeup again! Even an hour is great. This applies to all facials given by Skin Specialists— this would differ if receiving a clinical treatment such as a peel, SkinPen, etc.” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

3.What should I do or not do after getting a chemical peel?

  • "Don’t pick!!!!!
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Avoid anything that would make your face flush or sweat such as saunas or strenuous workouts
  • We provide you with all the skincare products you will need during the peel.
  • WEAR SUNSCREEN! During and after and for the rest of your life
  • After you are done peeling (typically 7 days) you are free to resume your normal activities and skincare routine.” -Amanda, RN

4.Why should I use a Retinol?

“Why should retinol be a part of our routine? Oh let me tell you! To simplify, retinol helps accelerate skin cell turnover and stimulates collagen. Because of this, retinol becomes a power-house serum and helps all the things, such as fine lines and wrinkles, helps keep pores unclogged to reduce blemish production, and areas that show pigmentation. By making retinol a part of your routine, you will notice brighter skin and texture reduction. Remember- aging happens everyday! So the sooner we take the steps to preventing them, the happier you and your skin will be ” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

5.Do you offer facials and services for men?

“Yes! Though many may think that facials and skincare is geared more towards women, men deserve self care just as much! At the vanity bar, each facial is tailored to our patient’s specific skincare needs and goals for both men and women. Our Clinicians and Skin Specialists are knowledgeable on how men’s skin can differ from women’s and customize your treatment based on your concerns/goals. @hydrafacial treatments, for example, are a huge hit with our male clients!

6.How do I know if I am a good candidate for Kybella®?

ou are a great candidate for Kybella if you have an excess of fat in the neck area under the chin. A good candidate should also understand that it may take several sessions to achieve desired results. Those with loose neck skin are usually not the best candidates. Scheduling a complimentary consultation is the best way to determine if you are a Kybella candidate or what procedure would best address your concerns!” - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

7.What does preventative Botox® mean?

The explanation: “The best wrinkle is the one that never happened ☺️ The facial muscles create wrinkles over time by repeatedly folding the skin. The longer the fold is made, the deeper the crease becomes. If you receive Botox on a regular basis before the wrinkle appears, it becomes the wrinkle that never happened!” - Amand, RN

8.How can I transition my skincare from summer to fall/winter?

Here are some tips to avoid dry skin and increased breakouts in the winter:

  1. “Reduce acids and retinol to their gentler forms. Tone down the strength to avoid potential irritation.
  2. Consider introducing oils and Vitamin C
  3. Switch your cleanser. If you’ve been using a foaming or abrasive cleanser in the summer, switch it out for a cream or oil-based formula in the fall/winter.
  4. Invest in a thicker moisturized or hydrating products such as masks.
  5. Don’t forget SPF! The sun’s UV rays are just as harmful in the winter.
  6. Reset skin with a chemical peel.”  - Abby, Skincare Specialist

9.How does QWO® work?

“QWO works by targeting the root cause of cellulite. When QWO is injected directly into the cellulite dimple it releases the fibrous band causing the cellulite. This results in fat redistribution and also stimulates new collagen growth!” -  Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

10.How long is the downtime after a chemical peel?

“The peeling process should be completely done within 7 days with days 2-5 being the heaviest for most patients. Makeup and sunscreen can be worn during this time. We recommend avoiding any activities that could make your face sweat (vigorous exercise, saunas, etc) for 3-4 days, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure for 7 days.” - Amanda, RN

Everyone’s budget and skin is different, and we will always work with you to make the time between facials right for you and your lovely skin!” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

13.Do you do tear trough filler?

“The under eye is a common concern for so many people! We do offer tear trough filler for the right patient. Under eye concerns can be caused by fat pads, pigmentation, or volume loss to the cheeks or under eyes. A consult with your injector is the best place to start. During your consultation, we will assess your concerns and create a treatment plan that will be most beneficial for you!” - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

14.Who is a good candidate for the Nordic Facial?

“The Nordic is beneficial for anyone looking for a good resurfacing as this treatment includes a peel that smooths, removes superficial pigmentation, and improves texture.  It also stimulates cellular turnover, while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  This is followed by a cooling aloe mask that will restore hydration and leave you with a fresh face glow! With no down-time, this facial is great for first-timers and gentle enough for all skin types.” - Abby, Skincare Specialist

15.I am interested in filler but will it look fake?

“This is a common question we receive! Here’s what Mandy has to say: “First, we promise to never make you look fake! Your injectors at The Vanity Bar believe in enhancing your natural beauty, not changing who you are. We take pride in our consultation process which involves listening to your concerns and educating you on the risks and benefits. One thing we often tell our clients is it takes 5 syringes of filler to equal 1 tsp. When placed throughout the face, 3-5 syringes of filler provides natural enhancements to the areas of concern.” - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

16.If I am struggling with acne, what is the first step to take?

“The first step one should take when they are struggling with acne or any other skin condition is to look at their skincare regimen. Your regimen is the foundation of your skin’s health and can make a dramatic difference when using the right products.

Another thing you can look at is your food and water intake. For some, including myself, certain foods and not enough water intake can affect one’s skin health. Though this is not the case for everyone, it is something that can be looked at! As always, your lovely estheticians are here with any questions and will get you on the right path to glowing skin.” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

17.What is a VB Mini Face Refresh?

“The VB Mini Face Refresh includes 3 syringes of filler that are strategically placed to lift, contour, and replace lost volume. The Mini Face Refresh isn't one size fits all! Myself and Amanda provide a complete full face assessment and place filler in areas that will best compliment your features. Examples of these areas include cheeks, under eyes, temples, smile lines, lips, chin and jawline. 18.What is a Red Carpet Peel?

You’re going to want to know the answer to this one! 💚 “A Red Carpet Peel is your perfect lunchtime peel with zero downtime. This superficial peel by ZO Skin Health uses a combination of alpha and beta hydroxy acids that stimulate cellular turnover, aid in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and improves overall skin tone, texture, and clarity. Whether you’re curious about chemical peels or a pro already, the Red Carpet Peel is a perfect introduction or great for maintaining your skin when you’re feeling a little extra dull. The best part? This peel is performed in 30 minutes, is suitable for all skin types, and you are sure to leave with a rejuvenated, glowing complexion. These peels can be performed once a week, or every 4-6 weeks to maintain ongoing skin health and pair beautifully with a dermaplane.” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

19.Does Filler hurt?

This is such a common question we get! Today Mandy answers: “Filler can sound scary and painful but it’s usually very tolerable! At the Vanity Bar, we talk you through each and every step and keep things as comfortable as possible. Keep in mind, there is lidocaine (a numbing agent) in filler. This helps keep things numb for 1-2 hours after the procedure. After treatment, almost all patients commented that it wasn’t as bad as they thought!” - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

20.How do I host a Botox® and Bubbles party?

Hosting a Botox & Bubbles party is easier than you may think! Simply book one on our website under 'Social Selfcare Programs'. These events include bubbly beverages, snacks, goodie bags to take home, 10% off retail and $11/unit Botox pricing. The best part? 21.What’s so great about a Hydradermabrasion?

“Hydrafacials have become our jam at the Vanity Bar- from signature, to deluxe, platinums, and our current favorite, the diamond! Diamond hydradermabrasion facials use our lovely little HydraFacial machine with the addition of the wet diamond tip. Similar to traditional microdermabrasion, the tip uses crystals to remove the dead layers of skin. When attached to the HydraFacial machine, you are getting an additional layer of exfoliation while also delivering serums into your skin. Like a deluxe, you will receive extractions, a booster serum tailored to your skin goals, light therapy, and a serum massage to finish. You will leave with less redness and irritation and with your skin feeling more hydrated and glowy than you would with traditional microderm. Best part? The chunky gunky waiting in the jar at the end- sorry not sorry for that one!” - Kacey, Skincare specialist

22.Why shouldn’t I dermaplane my own face at home?

"At home dermaplaning tools are cheap and relatively easy to find, but only give you light exfoliation and basic hair removal. You will also find many awkward angles, potential cuts, and occasionally even drier skin. They can be great for when you have little time or are in a pinch!

When you come to the VB for a dermaplane, your esthetician is able to remove extra layers of dead skin and all the fuzzies. We are better able to reach the more difficult areas and have gone through training to assure the best results. To add to the benefits, you also get a moment to relax as the professionals do the work. Dermaplanes allow your products to absorb better, makeup to go on smoother, and increases cell turnover. Plus who doesn't love the satisfaction of seeing all the goods you esti takes off during your appointment?" - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

23.What are the benefits of an IV during our services?

"IV Therapy is a custom cocktail of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that is tailored to your specific needs. Common reasons our clients seek IV therapy are: hangovers, boost the immune system, increase focus, weight loss, skin/hair/nail health, dehydration, and pre or post workout. IV Therapy can be added on to almost any service at The Vanity Bar.

In a hurry? We also offer quick and easy Vitamin injections including Vitamin B12, Biotin, and Lipotropic (MICC) injections." - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

24.Who is a good candidate for the Keravive Hydrafacial?

"Any client interested in improving the overall health of their scalp and hair and/or seeking treatment for hair thinning or hair loss can benefit from a HydraFacial Keravive Scalp treatment!

A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. This relaxing treatment is designed to cleanse, stimulate, nourish and hydrate your scalp for fuller and healthier-looking hair.

Oh and it's safe for extensions and color-treated hair!" - Abby, Skincare Specialist

25.How do I get started with retinol?

“Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that can improve signs of aging, minimize breakouts, and even skin complexion. Retinol might seem intimidating to incorporate into your skincare routine, so here are some tips to get you started.

▫️Start with applying 2-3x a week at bedtime.

▫️ Use a pea-size amount.

▫️Apply a non irritating moisturizer (we love ZO hydrating crème) prior to applying your retinol.

Be PATIENT! It takes an average of 6-12 weeks for your skin to adapt to retinol. If you want faster results and are ok with anticipated reactions like redness and flaking, apply that retinol every night. I promise the results are worth the temporary discomfort!” - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

26.What should I expect after my Botox® or Dysport® appointment? Aka Neuromodulators!

"After your neuromodulator appointment, expect amazing things to happen! Both Dysport and Botox have no downtime and minimal side effects. Immediately after your appointment, you should avoid exercise, massaging the treated area, and applying makeup. We also instruct everyone to avoid laying flat for 4 hours after treatment and to avoid facials for 2 weeks. The most common side effects are pinpoint bruising and a mild headache. Patience is key as Botox and Dysport do not take effect immediately. You will begin to notice results 2-10 days after treatment." - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

27.What is the difference between a Red Carpet Peel and a chemical peel?

A Red Carpet peel is a 30 minute facial using a combination of exfoliating ingredients to renew and revive skin. It is great for improving rough texture or dullness for immediate glow with zero downtime.

A chemical peel penetrates deeper to lift pigment, remove sun damage, alleviate acne and scarring and fight lines and wrinkles. This peel is meant for correction and does include some downtime (typically 5-7 days)." - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

28.How often should I use ZO Exfoliating Polish?

"ZO's exfoliating polish is designed to be gentle enough for daily use- so the amount you exfoliate can differ from each person! Most people like to incorporate it into their routine 2-3 times per week either in the morning or at night to achieve that instant glow while sloughing away any dead skin. This is normally what we recommend to our clients, especially if you're new to the exfoliating game. Rule of thumb for exfoliating: NEVER exfoliate over active acne or areas that are open, as this can spread bacteria and cause more irritation to the skin. So be gentle, let your polish do the work, and add it in as a luxury treatment to your skincare routine. We know you'll love it as much as we do." - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

29.What is the difference between Scupltra® and filler?

"Sculptra is an injectable poly-L-lactic acid that works as a bio-stimulator. Over time, poly-L-lactic acids stimulate your own body to produce collagen. Results are gradually over several months and produce very natural results. Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance that are made up of Hyaluronic acid. Results are instant and can aid in building structure, replacing lost volume and filling in wrinkles and folds." -Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

30.Should I add extractions to my facial service?

"If you are experiencing active breakouts or clogged pores, adding extractions onto your facial service would be a great option for you!

When done correctly, facial extractions can have countless benefits for your skin in the short and long term.

A common skincare mistake is picking at breakouts. Your hands and fingernails are covered in bacteria that can get under your skin when you pop a pimple. When your skin is not properly prepped and extracted, breakouts can spread, scarring may occur, and it will probably take longer to heal.

Saving your extractions for your facial appointment will help prevent future breakouts and ensure a sanitary, gentle method, clearing congestion and allowing your skincare products to better penetrate." - Abby, Skincare Specialist

31.What should I look for in a quality skincare product?

“An issue we all face is knowing what skincare products are suited for us, and if they are genuinely a quality product that will produce results. The basis for determining a product's quality is knowing your skin type and what ingredients work best for you. For example, those with oily skin will benefit from AHA’s, etc. Once you know what ingredients work best for your skin type, you will be able to read product labels and determine if you are investing in a good product. If you are ever questioning if a $7 serum that everyone is influenced by is going to perform, you can always double check with your esthetician. Skin Care is not a one size fits all, and it is so important to invest in a quality regimen to ensure your best results.” - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

32.What are the benefits of Lumecca and who is a good candidate?

"Lumecca is one of the BEST Intense Pulse Light Therapies available. Lumecca is a great choice if you're looking to minimize sun damage, treat age spots, freckles, and broken capillaries. In addition to improving skin tone, Lumecca increases collagen and elastin production which helps improve fine lines and wrinkles!

If you've ever considered a chemical peel, you may be a great candidate for Lumecca. Lumecca is an effective treatment with little to no social downtime. In fact, makeup can be applied immediately after treatment!" -  Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

33.What is so exciting about the Optimus machine?

You've all been dying to know, and this week Mandy is here to give you the short rundown of why we are SO excited about Optimus!

"Optimus by @inmodeaesthetics is an advanced platform for minimally invasive body treatments. With this technology, The Vanity Bar will be able to offer 3 new treatments for the face and body!

The first treatment is DiolazeXL. DiolazeXL is an effective laser hair removal device that is both powerful and fast. Treatment is virtually painless with a strong built in cooling system.

Next up is Lumecca. Lumecca is powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) laser treatment that targets brown and red discoloration, freckles, and age spots. A sapphire cooling tip results in a more comfortable treatment without the use of numbing cream. If you're looking for a brighter, more even skin tone, this treatment is for you!

The third treatment is Morpheus8! Morpheus8 is a cutting-edge technology that combines microneedling with radiofrequency to deliver AMAZING results. It's an impressive non-surgical treatment for full body skin resurfacing. This treatment increases collagen and elastin production, remodels fat, minimizes scars, fades stretch marks, improves skin texture, minimizes pores, tightens the skin, treats active acne, and reduces the appearance of cellulite. Is there anything Morpheus8 can't do?" - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

34.Does laser hair removal last forever?

"With our Diolaze XL, hair is permanently reduced after six treatments. Although some hair will grow back, it should be less noticeable, finer and lighter. After your initial 6 treatments, you will likely need an occasional touch up (about every year or so) to zap those stray hairs. Hormonal changes can also affect hair growth. Certain hormonal changes and imbalances may cause hair to resurface, requiring additional treatment." - Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C

35.Can I still go in the sun this summer if I’m using retinol?

"Absolutely; you can use retinol all year round. In fact, using retinol during the summer helps to prevent photo damage!

SPF will be a must though as your skin does become more sensitive to the sun ☀️ Remembering reapplication and using an SPF 30 or higher is essential to protecting the overall health of your skin.

Apply at night to ensure the retinoid's effectiveness on your skin." - Abby, Skincare Specialist

36.I have very oily skin. What Supergoop® products would you recommend?

"Our top three SuperGoop! choices for oily skin include: zinc screen, matte screen, and the mineral setting powder.

As a general rule, those who have oily skin will want to seek out SPF's that are 100% mineral or are a mineral-based product. Mineral sunscreens work better with oil and can help soak up any excess. Those who are blemish-prone will especially love the zinc screen! Each product can be used daily to protect against UV rays, and the mineral setting powder is perfect to keep in your bag to touch up throughout the day!" - Kacey, Skincare Specialist

37.What is Morpheus8 Body?

"Morpheus Body is a Radiofrequency Microneedling treatment that is FDA approved for tissue remodeling. During your treatment, tiny needles are used to produce radiofrequency heat in the tissues under the skin. This heat will smooth, tighten, and shrink the treated area (think shrink wrap). Morpheus Body has the capability to go deeper and deliver higher energy levels than Morpheus8. This makes it the ideal for treating the stomach, bra fat, upper knees, butt, and thighs, and more! What area do you want to treat with the Morpheus Body? Comment below!" -  Mandy, Medical Director, FNP-C
